New Delhi, Jan 7( PTI) The government on Sunday said GST officers have detected 29,273 bogus  enterprises involved in fake Input Tax Credit( ITC) claims of Rs 44,015 crore in eight months till December 2023 during a drive against fake enrollment , which helped save  profit of Rs 4,646 crore.

  In the October- December quarter, 4,153 bogus  enterprises that involved suspected ITC  elusion of around Rs 12,036 crore were detected. As  numerous as 2,358 of these bogus  enterprises were detected by the Central GST Authorities.   Maharashtra  outgunned the list with 926 bogus  enterprises detected, followed by Rajasthan( 507), Delhi( 483) and Haryana( 424).  

 The discovery during the December quarter  defended  profit of Rs 1,317 crore of which Rs 319 crore has been realised and Rs 997 crore has been  defended by blocking ITC. As  numerous as 41 persons were arrested in these cases while 31 of these apprehensions were made by Central GST Authorities, the finance ministry said. " Since the  inauguration of the special drive against fake enrollments  inmid-May 2023, a aggregate of 29,273 bogus  enterprises involved in suspected Input Tax Credit( ITC)  elusion of Rs 44,015 crore have been detected. 

This has saved Rs 4,646 crore of which Rs 3,802 crore is by blocking of ITC and Rs 844 crore is by way of recovery. So far, 121 apprehensions have been made in the cases," it said in a statement.  During the December quarter, the suspected  duty  elusion by 926 bogus  enterprises in Maharashtra worked out to be Rs 2,201 crore. 11 persons were arrested. In case of Delhi, the suspected  duty  elusion by 483 bogus  enterprises was Rs 3,028 crore and 11 people were arrested.  

 In case of Andhra Pradesh, the suspected  duty  elusion by 19 bogus  enterprises was Rs 765 crore, while in case of Haryana 424 bogus  enterprises were detected involved in the  elusion Rs 624 crore.   In Uttar Pradesh, 443 bogus  enterprises were detected involved in suspected GST  elusion of Rs 1,645 crore. Five persons were arrested in the state during the quarter.  

 To  check fraud in Goods and Services Tax( GST) and increase compliance, the GST  conformations, under the Central Board of Indirect levies and Customs( CBIC) and the State/ UT Governments, across the country are carrying out a focused drive on the issue of  missing/ bogus enrollments  and  allocation of fake  checks without any underpinning  force of goods and service   The ministry said the Government has taken  colorful measures to strengthen the GST enrollment  process. 

Airman  systems of biometric grounded Aadhar authentication at the time of enrollment  have been launched in the States of Gujarat, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.   Besides, the Government has endeavoured to  dock  elusion of  duty through measures  similar as  successional form of GST returns, system generated  suggestion for conciliation of the gap in  duty liability in GSTR- 1 and GSTR- 3B returns and of the gap between ITC available as per GSTR- 2B and ITC  profited in GSTR- 3B returns, use of data analytics and  threat parameters for discovery of fake ITC, etc, the ministry added.
